“COMPLETE A PAINTING IN ONE SESSION” $35
These classes are designed for beginning and experienced students and are offered every Wednesday or Thursday (your choice) 10:00-12:30 in January, February and March. Students will complete an acrylic painting on a 16”x20” canvas. Please see the schedule for subject of the paintings on each class day. Canvas, paints and brushes are supplied. Look through the pages on this site to see examples of the subjects painted in classes.

SNOWBIRDS ART CLASSES
Local artist Kathleen Tucker announced this season’s acrylic painting classes will be held on Wednesdays 10:00-12:30 in the Gulf Coast Ballet studio at The Wharf in Orange Beach. Students will complete a 16x20 painting with the canvas, acrylic paints and brushes supplied. Tuition with supplies is $35 per class. More complex subjects will require two classes at $55. Artists are also welcome to bring their own supplies and work on their own project with guidance from Tucker ($20). Examples of subjects: beach scenes, pelicans, Great blue herons, tropical scenes, palm trees, crabs, sea oats, fabric blowing in the breeze, a pallet knife painting, and more. These classes are ideal for visiting artist who need space to work in, or who did not bring their art supplies. They are also ideal for new beginning artists or those who have just always wondered if they can paint. Many students walk into class declaring that they “can’t even draw a stick figure” and walk out with a lovely finished painting. “Anyone who can hold a brush can paint a picture,” says Tucker, “it is just a matter of learning a few basic techniques, discovering your personal style and deciding if you enjoy it or not.” She specializes in teaching students to find their own style rather than just copy her paintings. “I have never enjoyed classes where the instructor stands in front of the class, paints a picture and the students follow along step by step, because then they feel the goal is simply to produce the same picture. I want to train students to become artists, not copy machines.” Tucker has worked for years developing her method of teaching and takes pride in how very different each student’s painting is at the end of each class. “It was also a challenge to come up with a way beginning students could finish a painting in 2½ hours without relying on the paint-by-numbers style of teaching used in many classes. I want students to leave each class not only with a complete painting but also with more skill and knowledge then they walked in with.”
